After planning, preparing, and dreaming about our trip since April of 2015, it was so exciting to board our plane and take off…FINALLY. Prior to leaving, we spent November/December with our families in California and Indiana, but as the holidays ended and the temperatures started to drop, we knew it was time to head out! We landed in San Jose, Costa Rica on December 30th and stayed at the Aloft Hotel, San Jose for 3 nights to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. Soaking up the sun, stuffing our faces with yummy food and drinks and not having any kind of schedule was a great and highly recommendable way to start any and all trips one might take.

My sister, Jana and brother in-law, Jason, joined us in San Jose on January 2nd, and from there we set-out on an 8 day adventure all around the county. Jana lived in Costa Rica for a year in 2004 so she knew all the ‘must see’ destinations/activities this country has to offer. After a fun filled week on the road (read about our exploration in our next blog post) we were ready to settle into our new home in the little beach town of Tamarindo, Costa Rica!

We have offitamarindosignscially been unofficial residents of Tamarindo for 7 days and we are absolutely in LOVE with this place. It is a small town located on the western coast of Costa Rica in the Guanacaste Province. You might be asking yourself how/why we chose to spend time in this specific location and the answer is pretty simple…I (Kira) visited Tamarindo in 2004 on a family vacation and had experienced it’s beautiful beach, delicious food, laid back vibe, and the locals who almost all spoke ENGLISH! So only going off what I remembered in the past about Tamarindo, we decided to book a place for 6 weeks and boy, did we make the right decision!

As soon as we drove into town on the only/main road in Tamarindo, we could feel the liveliness/culturetownhouse of this place. It has definitely increased as a vacation destination since 2004, but with that has brought so manourpooly more restaurants, activities and people to meet. Our town house is adorable and is only an 8 minute walk to the beach and the center of town. It is a 2 bedroom 2.5 bath home that provides all the necessities we need here including a community pool 25 ft from our front door. We are becoming all too accustomed to our lunchtime dips in the pool, which will be a sad habit to break when we have to leave. We can’t wait to share this place with our visitors coming in the next couple weeks, but until then, we will have to soak up the warm sun and beautiful sunsets on our own!

There is so much more to say about Tamarindo and Costa Rica, but we will save that for some future posts. Until then, Pura Vida!!
